Cortina d’Ampezzo, January 8th 2025 – Following the green light from FIS, the International Ski and Snowboard Federation, which carried out the “snow control” on Sunday, January 5, preparations began on Tuesday, January 7, in Cortina d’Ampezzo for the Olympia delle Tofane.
This slope will host the Audi FIS Cortina Ski World Cup on January 18th and 19th, one of the most eagerly awaited events in the women’s Alpine Ski World Cup, focused on speed disciplines.
Around fifty people are currently working to get ready for the event organized by Fondazione Cortina, which will see the world’s fastest athletes competing in downhill on the first day and super-G on the second. The team is coordinated by race director Matteo Gobbo.
“We are supported by the lift company Ista and Prinoth, part of the HTI Group and a global leader in winter technology, which provides the snowcats, as well as by Liski, which supplies nets and protective mattresses,” explains Gobbo.
“We have already started installing the nets, and in the coming hours, we will secure them and work on shaping the snow profiles. As always, we will also be assisted by personnel from the Alpine Troops Command of the Italian Army.”
After a break for the holiday season, work has resumed at the Rumerlo finish area. “Despite challenging weather earlier this week, work has continued as planned, and everything is progressing on schedule,” says Riccardo Alfarè, logistics manager for the finish area. “The finish area, including the grandstands, parterre, Tofana Lounge, and the structures for TV broadcasts, will be ready by Wednesday, January 15.”
The Audi FIS Cortina Ski World Cup will officially begin on Thursday, January 16, with the first timed downhill training session. The second timed session will follow on Friday, January 17, while the downhill race is scheduled for Saturday, January 18, with the first athlete starting at 11:00 AM. The second and final day, dedicated to the super-G, will take place on Sunday, January 19, with the first start also set for 11:00 AM. The first start is also set for 11:00 AM.
For spectators, the finish area will feature entertainment, music, and food & beverage services on both race days. Fans can watch the competitions live from various locations: the Parterre, the Prosecco DOC Sparkling Corner, or the Grandstand. Tickets for these areas can be purchased on the website cortinaskiworldcup.com.
