Cortina d’Ampezzo (Belluno), 10 January 2023 – After receiving the green light from the FIS (International Ski Federation), which carried out the usual snow control over the weekend, Monday 9 January saw the start of the preparations of the Olympia delle Tofane track, ahead of the Women’s Alpine Ski World Cup 20-22 January in Cortina. The event, organised by Fondazione Cortina, will see the world’s top skiers compete in the speed disciplines, kicking off with a superG, followed by the downhill and ending with a second superG.
About 50 staff will be working on the track throughout the week, under the supervision of Matteo Gobbo, to set up the nets and complete the necessary steps to prepare the track for the tests and the races.
«We have started setting up the A nets, the first part of the preparations» explains Gobbo. «In the next few days we will proceed with the other protective devices in order to guarantee the safety of the athletes. Thanks to a collaboration with the Alpine Troops Command, our staff is reinforced by about 20 soldiers from the Seventh Alpine Regiment».
For the development of the race track, Fondazione Cortina also collaborates with Ista, the cableway company, and is supported by modern snow cats from Prinoth, part of the HTI group, world leader in winter technologies with the construction of ropeways, snow groomers and artificial snow systems. Fondazione Cortina started its partnership with the HTI group during the 2021 Ski World Championships. Finally, the gates, provided by Liski, will be placed on the track.
In Rumerlo, the final touches are being added to the finish area, with the support of vehicles provided by Dolomiti Strade. This year, the Cortina Ski World Cup will welcome the public without restrictions as fans will have access to the parterre (access will be free of charge on Friday 20 January) and the tribune (1000 seats), set up by Sartoretto.
There is still some availability for the parterre and the tribune, whereas the Tofana Lounge is sold out. The panoramic terrace with magnificent views of the arrivals area, offers a restaurant by Chef Team Cortina, as well as a wine & cocktail bar, and music.
