Cortina d'Ampezzo is surrounded at 360 degrees by the Dolomites which have been universally recognized as the most beautiful mountains in the world, and have been listed by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site since June 2009.
Systems 1 (Pelmo-Croda da Lago) and 5 (Northern Dolomites) surround Cortina d'Ampezzo but also act as an interface between the other Dolomite systems. An open-air laboratory, frequented for more than 150 years by generations of scientists and students, where many founding theories of the earth sciences were born.
